Marcel Sztenberg

Marcel was born in Paris in 1937. At the age of five, he saw his family for the last time. His father was first arrested during the "green ticket" roundup, and later Marcel, his mother, and his brother were taken away during the Vél’ d’Hiv roundup. At Beaune-la-Rolande, he was brutally separated from his mother. His brother was deported to Auschwitz.

Miraculously saved, Marcel spent two and a half years in hiding under an assumed name.

"Who tied my shoes when I was five? Who dressed me? I had to fend for myself."

After the war, no one spoke to him about his parents. He discovered their names on his own, years later.
